SCHERERVILLE | Town officials are pleased with paving work completed this year.
About 21,000 feet of resurfacing was completed on a total of 28 streets in Schererville, said Jeff Huet, director of the town's Public Works Department.
"We're very happy," Huet said of the project. "We got a lot of work done this year."
Roads that received improvements include Clark Road from 91st Avenue to the town's south border, 77th Avenue from St. John Road to Schererville's west border and Joliet Street from the east town border to Forest Ridge Drive.
The resurfacing project was approved by the Town Council in August, and work started around the end of that month.
Most of the paving was completed before October, but some minor work was finished at the end of October and early this month, Huet said.
The paving was estimated to cost about $588,000, Huet said. The work was completed for about $13,000 less than the budgeted amount, he said.
Town Council President Tom Schmitt said public works is short-staffed, but he is pleased with the work produced by the department.
"You guys did a remarkable job on that," Schmitt said to Huet.
