SCHERERVILLE | Police issued a new description of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run last week that injured a 9-year-old boy.
Police said an older model Chrysler or Dodge minivan struck the boy at 5:10 p.m. July 10 while he was riding a bicycle near the intersection of 81st Place and Westwood Court.
The officer investigating the case believes the van is teal in color. Police said the front end of the vehicle should have minor damage.
The driver of the van has been described as a white or Hispanic woman who is 30 to 40 years old. Police said the woman has dark hair and was wearing a tank top and shorts.
A witness told police the driver spoke with the boy and his friend after the crash, and she drove south on Burr Street.
The boy suffered a severe arm injury and scrapes during the crash, police said. He was treated at Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Schererville Police Department at (219) 322-5000.
