SCHERERVILLE | A woman stole a purse from an elderly Walmart customer about 12:15 p.m. Saturday at the store, 1555 U.S. 41.

Video surveillance shows the suspect following the elderly victim throughout the store until she had an opportunity to remove the victim's purse from a shopping cart, police said.

The suspect is seen leaving the store and getting into a gray Dodge or Ford van.

While backing out of a parking space, the van hit a shopping cart another customer was using in the parking lot.

Police said it appears the suspect had a conversation with that person before leaving the area.

The suspect is described as a white female with blonde hair in a ponytail. She was wearing glasses, a light green shirt and black pants during the theft, police said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Schererville police Detective Patrick Rosado at (219) 322-5000.
