SCHERERVILLE | The investigation of Wednesday's hit-and-run crash continues, but police haven't yet identified a suspect in the case.
The investigating officer returned to the scene Friday with the intent of collecting more information about the crash, Schererville police Cmdr. Brian Neyhart said.
A 9-year-old boy was struck by an older model minivan about 5 p.m. Wednesday while the boy was riding a bicycle.
The boy suffered an arm injury and scrapes during the crash near 81st Place and Westwood Court, Neyhart said. The boy was taken to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, but his condition wasn't available Friday, Neyhart said.
Police continue to ask the public to provide information about the crash.
Witnesses described the driver of the van as a white or Hispanic woman with dark hair. She was wearing a tank top and shorts.
The color of the van could be blue, green or black, police said.
The female driver was seen getting out the van after the crash, police said.
A witness told police the driver spoke with the boy and his friend, retrieved a portion or all of the front bumper, placed it into the van and drove south on Burr Street.
The Schererville Police Department asks people with information about the crash to call (219) 322-5000.
