SCHERERVILLE | The owner of a Schererville restaurant and bar is seeking assistance from the town to improve access to his business.
Jimmy Gerodemos, who owns Gelsosomo's Pizzeria/Bullpen bar, said traffic often backs up near his business at 1013 W. U.S. 30, which can make it difficult for customers to get to the location.
He said there have been accidents near the business because of the access issues.
Gerodemos said a solution is needed to improve safety. He believes building an access road to a nearby traffic signal could reduce accidents by creating an easier route for his customers to enter and exit the restaurant and bar.
He said he has been pursuing improvements at the location for four or five years, but Schererville officials haven't been cooperative during the process.
Town Manager Bob Volkmann could not be reached for comment about the matter.
In addition to the safety concerns, the access issues could affect business at the restaurant and bar, Gerodemos said.
When there is heavy traffic in that area, customers might have to wait several minutes before it's clear to enter the business, Gerodemos said. He thinks he might lose customers who decide to go elsewhere if they have to wait too long on U.S. 30.
"It's just ridiculous," Gerodemos said of the situation.
