The Schererville Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 50th year of

being part of a great town and helping business owners, small and large, network

and watch their businesses grow in Schererville’s strong economic environment.

Chamber President Ken Balazs says Schererville is a great place to

live and a great place to do business.

Not only is 2013 the Chamber’s 50th year but it’s also marks the 50th

Annual ACYE Corn Roast. It is Lake County’s longest running corn roast. Balazs,

of Pinnacle Hospital, has been part of this annual event for more than 14 years.

This year’s corn roast, which will be held Friday, July 26, at Redar

Park (Austin Avenue and Gregory Street) runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Schererville’s American Legion Post 485’s Beer Garden will be open until 10:30

p.m. The park will be filled with vendors; there will be games, contests and

entertainment. After

50 years, this has become a town tradition and a great way to get

together with friends and family without having to cook. Ticket prices have

remained the same for several years, making this an affordable and fun night.

Tickets cost $7 for ages 12 and older and $4 for children ages 5 to 11. Children

four and under are free. The price includes all the grilled corn you can eat

with one polish sausage or hot dog (with or without Teibel’s world-famous

sauerkraut) and one soft drink.

The Schererville Chamber’s Annual Community Garage Sale is August 10

(rain date August 17) on the grounds of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 140

W US 30. Board Member and Committee Chair Cindy Jansky, of Caliber Funding,

invites residents to bring all their unwanted treasurers to the sale.

To be a corn roast vendor or to reserve space at the community garage

sale, applications are on the Chamber’s website, For further

information, contact the Schererville Chamber office at (219) 322-5412.

The Schererville Chamber’s Annual Wine Tasting is scheduled for Sept.

19 and once again the chamber will help the Schererville Park Department greet

Santa Claus the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 29, at the Christkindlmarket.

Not-for-profit organizations can list an event on the chamber’s website

by e-mail their information to

The Schererville Chamber of Commerce would like to thank local

residents and businesses for their continued support over the past 50 years and

for supporting its Shop Schererville Campaign.
