Kick off the 2013 summer season with fun, food, games, live music, carnival rides, and the “All Paths Lead to Home” parade at the 22nd annual “Celebrate Schererville” Festival. Join family, friends and neighbors at Redar Park, Austin and Gregory Streets during the five-day hometown celebration which runs from Wednesday June 19 through Sunday June 23. “Celebrate Schererville” is one of Northwest Indiana’s first festivals.
$15 per Wrist Band Pre-Sale tickets can be purchased at the Schererville Clerk-Treasurer’s Office until 3 p.m., Wednesday June 19. Cash and credit card only. Pre-sale tickets good for one day only and will be honored Wednesday, June 19; Thursday, June 20; and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday June 22; and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 23. Regular wrist band tickets can be purchased for $20 each.
Festivities including food, the Beer Garden, sponsored by Schererville Firefighters Local 4279, and amusement rides begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Festival Beer Garden will be open until 9 p.m. Sunday and the amusement rides run through 8 p.m. Sunday.
On Wednesday, the Beer Garden serves adult beverages for those 21 and over from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The amusement rides from All-Star Amusement can be enjoyed during those same hours. “All in a Day” and “The Heights” entertain from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the Showmobile Stage.
On Thursday, hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the Festival Beer Garden and amusement rides open during those hours. Live music entertainment will be provided by “Fresh Hops” from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
On Friday, “Celebrate Schererville” runs from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with the Festival Beer Garden and amusement rides open during those hours. Entertainment will be provided by “Together” from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The festival opens at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the amusement rides open until 11:30 p.m. The Festival Beer Garden is open 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. At 5 p.m. the “All Paths Lead Home” Parade begins at Roman Road to Joliet Street and marches to Redar Park. The “Unstoppables” will perform on stage from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
On Sunday the festival is open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with amusement rides closing at 8 p.m. From 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Lake Hills Baptist Ensemble will perform the patriotic program “I Love This Land.” The Festival Beer Garden will be open from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Nicole Jamrose will perform on stage from 6 p.m. To 9 p.m.
The rides, again provided by All-Star Amusement, include the Ferris wheel, bumper cars and carousel. Kiddies can ride motorcycles, cars, boats and dinosaurs. See WRIST BANDS above for prices and presale information.
A time-honored tradition at the “Celebrate Schererville” festival is the food. There are many food choices for snacks, beverages or entire meals. Festival favorites include pizza, hamburgers, tacos, corn on the cob, brats, hot dogs, pork chops, fried vegetables, ice cream, pretzels, funnel cakes, elephant ears and more.
In addition to wine and beer at the Festival Beer Garden for adults 21 and older, there are also water, lemonade, smoothies, shakes and soft drinks available. Picnic tables will be located throughout the area, some in the shade or under tents. Or bring your own blankets or lunch chairs for a picnic.
Sponsored by the Schererville Parks Department and Town of Schererville, on Saturday June 22, celebrating the joys of living in Schererville, with the 22nd annual parade “All Paths Lead Home” begins at 5 p.m. downtown at Roman Road, runs through downtown on Joliet Street and marches to Redar Park. All schools, businesses, churches and local organizations are invited to participate in this special event.
“All Paths Lead Home” features decorated floats and vehicles, antique cars, and bands. Lineup is at 4 p.m. Entries will be judge on appearance, theme, originality and showmanship. The reviewing stand will be in front of the Schererville Police station.
Parking is limited at Redar Park. Offsite parking is available at Homan School, the community center at Scherwood Park (near Scherwood Golf Club) and along Reiplinger Road and the Pennsy Trail.
