INDIANAPOLIS | The Schererville native who was spokesman for the Indiana Republican Party during and after the 2012 election campaign is resigning Friday to pursue other opportunities.

Pete Seat worked in the White House press office in the George W. Bush administration, helped elect Dan Coats to the U.S. Senate and penned opinion columns for The Times before signing on in 2011 as state GOP communications director.

He worked closely with former Indiana Republican Chairman Eric Holcomb who quit in June to become Coats' chief of staff.

Seat said he plans to travel to Las Vegas, Istanbul and Athens before embarking on "the next adventure."
