SCHERERVILLE | Police are seeking help from the public to identify a woman suspected of stealing another woman's purse.

The woman shown in the surveillance photos is suspected of stealing the purse of an elderly woman while she was shopping at 12:15 p.m. June 1 at Walmart in Schererville, police Detective Patrick Rosado said.

The surveillance photos show the suspect following the elderly woman throughout the store until an opportunity is found to remove the victim's purse from her shopping cart.

The suspect can then be seen leaving the store and entering a gray Dodge or Ford minivan, police said.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged white woman with blond hair pulled into a ponytail, standing about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds and wearing glasses, a light green shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Rosado at (219) 322-5000.
