SCHERERVILLE | A 24-year-old woman was gunned down in front of her home late Saturday night, police said.

Jacqueline Gardner died after being shot multiple times, and the Lake County coroner's office called the shooting an apparent homicide.

Gardner, of the 8000 block of Alpine Lane, died at Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, a coroner's news release states.

Schererville police responded to the shooting at 11:33 p.m. Saturday, a police news release states.

The Lake County Crime Lab and Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force are assisting Schererville police with the investigation.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday night. Police were checking into several leads in the case, officials said.

Schererville Cmdr. Michael Vode is handling the investigation. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Vode at (219) 322-5000.
