SCHERERVILLE | The competition to determine Cub Scout Pack 512's fastest car was fierce Saturday at the annual Pinewood Derby.
Cub Scout Pack 512 held its annual races in Team Toyota’s new Schererville showroom Feb. 9. The showroom teemed with excitement and the aluminum Pinewood Derby racetrack spanned its length.
Scouts provided 32 race entries, and more than 100 enthusiastic scouts, parents, siblings and grandparents cheered their favorite Pinewood cars. Boy Scout Troop 561 from St. John helped by tabulating the results of each race.
Wolf Den Scout Aaron Fleming’s streamlined army tank was unbeatable, winning the first-place trophy. Brothers Erik and Cory Napiwocki won second and third place, respectively, providing a dramatic sibling showdown.
Scouts also won for their creative work, including recognition for Best Sports Car, Most Patriotic and the “Dude, That’s Awesome!” trophy.
Team Toyota owner Mike Rudolph and General Manager Jason Akers were generous hosts, providing lunch from Potbelly’s Sandwiches.
