SCHERERVILLE | The ballot has been set for Wednesday's caucus to fill the vacant 2nd Ward Schererville Town Council seat.
Republicans Ken Stevenson and Kevin Connelly are the only two candidates who have filed for the position, said Kim Krull, Lake County Republican chairwoman.
Schererville Republican precinct committeemen are set to participate in a caucus at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the St. John Township community center, 1515 W. U.S. 30.
The person selected would be sworn in Wednesday. He could participate in the council meeting that starts at 7 that night.
Stevenson, the owner of Classic Taxi in Schererville, has operated the business since 2003, he said.
Stevenson thinks his experience as a small business owner is needed on Schererville's Town Council.
He has held no prior elected office, but he has been involved with several local chambers of commerce, Stevenson said.
If selected to serve on the council, Stevenson would seek more transparency for Schererville residents, he said.
Connelly served as a Schererville Police Commission member from 2008 to 2011. He was the panel's chairman during three of those years.
Connelly said he enjoyed his experience on the commission, and he would like another opportunity to serve the town.
Connelly is an account manager at Ricoh in Chicago. He said he has developed service and financial experience, which would be an asset if he is selected to serve on the council.
The 2nd Ward council spot became vacant after Republican Hal Slager left the position to represent Indiana House District 15.
Slager's term on the Town Council has two years remaining.
