SCHERERVILLE | Sirens weren't the only things squealing recently at Forest Ridge Academy.
Children in the preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten classes were thrilled to have members of the Schererville Fire Department visit them at school in honor of Fire Prevention Month.
Several firefighters and EMTs came to the campus to help educate the children about fire safety. The SFD sent a large ladder truck along with two ambulances for the children to view.
The students were able to climb into the vehicles and see for themselves how the firefighters and EMTs respond to fire and ambulance calls.
The firefighters let the children carry the fire hose and pretend to put out a fire. They even let the students sit in the driver's seat of the big fire truck.
The highlight of the day occurred when all of the trucks left the school with their lights and sirens blaring.
