SCHERERVILLE | Town Councilman Hal Slager was honored during his last council meeting Wednesday.
Councilman Jerry Tippy said it has been a privilege to serve with Slager, who was elected last week to serve in the Indiana House District 15 seat.
Slager officially takes his new position Tuesday, and he will leave the council at that time.
"I know he will represent us well," Tippy said.
Clerk-Treasurer Janice Malinowski commended Slager for his help with the town's budget.
"I have great confidence in his ability," Malinowski said.
Slager has served on the council for about 10 years. The town provided Slager with a plaque for his service.
Council President Tom Schmitt said Slager will continue to be involved with Schererville during his work as a state representative.
