Wellness screenings offered

SCHERERVILLE | A Health and Wellness Fair provides resource booths, screening, lectures, massages, stress relief techniques, healthy cooking demonstrations and heart-healthy refreshments from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Schererville Community Center, 500 E. Joliet St. Admission is free.


Service of Light Mass slated

ST. JOHN | The Elizabeth Ministry of Northwest Indiana celebrates a Memorial Mass to remember children who died through miscarriage, stillbirth or any other death. The Service of Light Mass is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10701 Olcott Ave.


Qualifying kids get backpacks

HAMMOND | Christ Lutheran Church, 7051 Indianapolis Blvd., provides free backpacks all day to qualifying elementary school children in the Hammond area. Brats, kraut at German Fest

Event aids St. Jude House

HOBART | Stand up for St. Jude House is an event that features cocktails, dinner, a comedy show and a silent auction. Cocktails are at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30, Hobart. All proceeds from Stand Up For St. Jude House support programming at the Crown Point-based organization that offers services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Pasta's on at Mama Mia supper

HOBART | The Hobart Community Foundation serves its annual Mama Mia spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Bridge parish center, Second and Center streets. It includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic bread, coffee and dessert. It costs $8 for adults, $5 for children 9 and younger. Beer, wine and pop are available.

Black History program

HAMMOND | The Hammond Public Library presents In Their Own Words: A Program of African-American History from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the library, 564 State St. The program is free and open to the public.

Tri-Kappa Sorority hosts bunco

MUNSTER | The Hammond Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority hosts a bunco blast from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave., Munster. It includes a buffet dinner and refreshments, prizes, raffle baskets and 50/50 raffle. The $30 ticket includes three basket raffle tickets. Proceeds benefit area charities, arts and scholarships. Water quality discussed

HOBART | A program on monitoring and improving water quality in Northwest Indiana will be presented by Jonathan Schoer, associate professor of chemistry at Valparaiso University in a program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at First Unitarian Church of Hobart, 497 Main St.

KV thespians stage 'Mulan Jr.'
