SCHERERVILLE | The Tri-Town Safety Village continues to attract support to provide children with valuable safety lessons, officials at the facility said.
The organization announced Thursday it is collaborating with Enbridge to create a new facility on the safety village property, 1350 Eagle Ridge Drive.
Through the partnership, the two groups will provide education about pipeline awareness and safe digging practices.
The announcement comes about a month after NIPSCO donated $39,000 to create another building at the safety village, which is a child-sized model of a town in which children learn about various safety topics.
Gas and electric safety will be explained at the NIPSCO building, which could open this summer, officials said.
The Tri-Town Safety Village has several existing structures that are used to teach children about fire, railroad and traffic safety.
