Illiana Search and Rescue Teams members recently attended a luncheon sponsored by the Lake County Emergency Planning Committee.
Among those in attendance were Lake County elected officials and representatives of the Lake County Health Department and Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, EMA directors from across Lake County, school and hospital administrators, and others involved in emergency planning throughout the county.
During the luncheon, awards were presented to organizations for their work in emergency preparedness pertaining to health care, education, emergency management, and search and rescue.
The Illiana Search and Rescue Teams were awarded the Community Safety Award for its work in Emergency Preparedness and Community Outreach. Several ISAR members were in attendance to accept the honor.
"Thank you to all the dedicated ISAR team members that continually volunteer their professional/personal time and assets to provide emergency assistance to our respective communities whenever the need arises," said ISAR Director Mark R. Price. "Without individuals like yourself, our commitment and efforts would simply not be possible. Whether a team member or one of our support agencies/sponsors... you all are the instrumental cogs that make the wheel go round."
Since 2000, added Price, the Illiana Search and Rescue Teams have stood ready to assist emergency response personnel and communities within the Chicagoland areas during emergency situations. From rescuing stranded motorists on highways during blizzards, evacuating hospitals and subdivisions during severe flooding, searching for missing persons and downed aircraft, to providing disaster assistance when tornados or pandemics strike, all ISAR volunteers train and respond "so that others may live."
