The women of four Northwest Indiana Serbian Orthodox churches will sponsor their 20th Humanitarian Relief Fund banquet at 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at St. Elijah Serbian American Hall, 8700 Taft St., in Merrillville.

The four Circle of Serbian Sisters groups are from St. Elijah, St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville, St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville and St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in East Chicago. The  four churches have members who live throughout the region, in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties as well as Chicago's south suburbs.

The annual banquet raises funds to distribute to needy youth in the former Yugoslavia. A group of sisters travels to the former Yugoslavia to deliver the money, to ensure it goes to directly to help needy children and teenagers.

Those who cannot attend the banquet, which will feature authentic Serbian and Slavic dishes and desserts, are asked to send a check addressed to Humanitarian Fund and mail it to St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, Humanitarian Fund Banquet, 8700 Taft St., Merrillville, IN 46410.
