SHELBY | The Kankakee River at Shelby is under a flood warning until further notice due to weekend rains and melting snow.

The National Weather Service said the river was at 10.2 feet Monday morning. Flood stage is 9 feet.

Minor flooding was forecast.

The river is expected to rise slightly to a crest of 10.3 feet by midnight Tuesday, but the National Weather Service warned ice jams were also possible. Ice jams can cause rapid fluctuations in river levels.

At 10 feet, the Kankakee River at Shelby can cause flooding that impacts local and county roads. Wildwood Estates and Sumava Resorts experience minor flooding as well.
