CROWN POINT | A Lake Criminal Court jury convicted a Shelby man Thursday of molesting a 12-year-old girl last year.

Jurors found 43-year-old Scott Alan Wright guilty of forcing the girl to perform a sex act March 26, 2012, in his south Lake County home.

The girl, who is now 13, testified Tuesday that Wright threatened to hit her with a wooden paddle if she refused his advances.

She said her lengthy testimony in a public trial was painful.

"I want to be able to get this behind me, but I don't want to because it brings back memories," she said.

Deputy prosecutors Catherine Breitweiser-Hurst and Christine Parry presented evidence collected by Indiana State Police Detective Jennifer Richmond.

Defense attorney John Cantrell represented Wright, who faces up to 50 years in prison. Wright's sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 16.
