SHELBY | Two Shelby residents were killed in a three-vehicle crash Thursday in Illinois.

Laura J. Basham, 64, and Barry N. Basham, 61, died at the scene of the wreck, Illinois State Police investigators said.

Laura Basham was driving a 2012 Dodge Journey and was stopped about 8:25 a.m. behind a semitrailer because of construction on Ill. 1/17 near 9250 East Road, police said.

A 2013 semitrailer driven by Krzysztof Sulkowski, 37, of Chicago, did not slow down in time and crashed into the Bashams' vehicle, police said. Sulkowski also crashed into the semitrailer that was driven by Troy J. Farney, 42, of Forest, Ill.

Janice J. Billadeau, 36, of Momence, Ill., drove her 2007 Toyota off the road and into ditch to avoid the crash, police said.

Laura Basham and passenger Barry Basham died at the scene, police said. Sulkowski and Farney were transported to Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

State police continue to investigate the crash.
