Slick, snow-covered roads make for messy morning commute

Drivers maneuver around a semi early Tuesday after it slid off a ramp in the area of Interstates 80/94 and 65 in Gary.

Take it easy and drive with caution this morning.

A thin layer of snow blanketed U.S. 30 through Lake County about 6 a.m., and markings on the road were not visible.

Indiana State Police were responding to multiple crashes along Interstate 80/94 in northern Lake County. Traffic delays should be expected on I-80/94 and I-65 throughout much of the county, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation's TrafficWise website.

The snow could continue through late Tuesday morning, when temperatures are expected to begin dropping, according to the National Weather Service.

Low temperatures could drop into the single digits Tuesday night into Wednesday morning in Lake and Porter counties, and wind chills could fall below zero.

Highs in the teens are expected Wednesday, and Thursday's high could rise only into the single digits. In LaPorte County, temperatures could remain slightly warmer and there is a 20 percent chance of snow after noon Wednesday, according to the weather service.
