ST. JOHN | "Once On This Island" is a musical set on a Caribbean Island in the Antilles, which sounds like an ideal getaway for winter weary midwesterners.
The goods news is that you only have to travel as far as Lake Central High School to get there, since the Lake Central Theater Company, fresh from a successful appearance at the Indiana Thespians Conference, is creating this tropical paradise on stage next month.
Performances are set for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as March 7, 8 and 9, in the Lake Central High School Auditorium, 8400 U.S. 41. Alumni Night is Saturday, and Senior Scholarship Night is March 7.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/students and $7 for children 12 and younger. For more information, call (219) 365-8551, ext.226 or visit www.lcdrama.org.
"Once On This Island" is about a locale which is home to two entirely different societies: the poor peasants and the aristocratic Grand Hommes. A group of storytellers tell the tale of a young girl, Ti Moune, who was saved from a flood by the gods as a child and raised by a pair of kindly old peasants. As she grows up, however, Ti Moune longs for a grander life than the one she faces.
This show is appealing to all ages, so grab the sun tan lotion and a beach towel and head for the islands.
