MERRILLVILLE | Sharing is a word that 9-year-old Bradleigh Graham doesn't have to look up in the dictionary, but when she does need a book, she knows exactly where to find one.
"The Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition recently received a heartwarming phone call from a family in St. John," said NWILC President Dian Reyome.
As Bradleigh Graham was getting ready to celebrate her Christmas Day birthday, said her father, Randi Graham, "she asked all her friends coming to her birthday party to not bring her gifts, but instead bring books she could donate to needy kids," added Reyome, also the financial capabilities coordinator at Centier Bank.
Soon after, Bradleigh and her father brought Literacy Coordinator Rosella Garcia of the Lake County Public Library in Merrillville a box of gift-wrapped books with notes on each saying if it was for a girl or boy and the age range.
The books have been offered to the Gary Literacy Coalition, Reyome added.
Randi Graham thanked Garcia for her help with his daughter's project and took photos for his daughter's scrapbook.
"Isn’t this one of the most heartwarming stories? What a great little girl," Reyome said.
