A body was found near a new electric substation on the southeast corner of the Lake Central High School property Wednesday night.
The Lake County coroner's office was called to investigate and arrived at the scene about 8:20 p.m.
A St. John police officer at the scene said notifications were being made but would release no further information.
Neighbors watching the scene from the adjacent Ventura Estates subdivision said an opening in a chain link fence that runs along that side of the school property is a popular shortcut for students and other children. But they believed it was recently boarded up.
They also said a man arrived shortly not long after 7 p.m., then got out of his vehicle on Ventura Trails Drive and seemed to be very distressed.
