ST. JOHN | St. John the Evangelist Church has a busy weekend planned Aug. 24-25.
The church is hosting Creator’s Corner, an all-day scrapbooking and papercrafting workshop, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 in the St. John the Evangelist School Gym, 9400 U.S. 41.
Spend the day working on your scrapbooking projects you never have time to work on," said organizer Christina Soto. As in years past, participants are encouraged to create and donate one baby-themed scrapbook page to be given to parents with infants in the local neonatal intensive care unit to commemorate the baby’s milestones during the first fragile months of life.
A registration fee of $36 includes all-day scrapbooking in addition to lunch, dinner, snacks, a goody bag, door prizes, vendors, games and raffles. Due to limited seating, registration is due today. Group rates are available. For more information or to register, visit www.stjohnparish.org/cfi.php or call Soto at (219) 308-4802.
"Creator’s Corner is a fun, community oriented event sponsored by the Catholic Family Institute, a parish ministry of St. John the Evangelist Church," Soto added. "CFI offers free quality programming on marriage and family life within the community."
That same weekend, the parish will celebrate its third annual Friends and Family Sunday at both the 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Aug. 25 at the church, 10701 Olcott Ave.
As the title implies, the parish is encouraging nonmembers and inactive Catholics to attend Mass.
"Our pastor, the Rev. Sammie Maletta, is a very dynamic and inspiring preacher and I’m confident that you’ll recognize that there is something very unique and special taking place here in St. John," Deacon Ed Bodley said. "This is not your ordinary Catholic church."
