ST. JOHN | Residential building permits for this year are running ahead of last year.
Town Manager Steve Kil told the Town Council recently that 41 single-family building permits and six permits to build duplexes have been issued through March 31.
“Last year at this time, there were 32 building permits issued. Now we have 47,” Kil said. “That’s a decent sign that new homes are up a bit.”
Within the next month, commercial building permits should be issued for the new McDonald’s restaurant and a new Eenigenburg Water Quality facility along U.S. 41 at 97th Lane, he said.
The Town Council approved a variance Thursday for Eenigenburg Water Quality that will speed the construction process for both buildings.
McDonald’s Corp. of Oak Brook plans to build the town’s first golden arches in the Eenigenburg second addition on the current site of Eenigenburg Quality Water. That building will be torn down to make way for the restaurant.
Owner John Eenigenburg will build a new Quality Water facility one lot north of the McDonald’s.
“All that’s left is inspections (of the property) and the issuing of permits,” Kil said.
