ST. JOHN TOWNSHIP | The Lake Hills Fire Department is now charging for ambulance service for both township residents and nonresidents, Assistant Fire Chief Steve Flores said.
The new charges help offset the cost of adding part-time emergency medical technician staffing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Lake Hills Fire Department, he said.
Rates for transports to a hospital are $460 for residents and $580 for nonresidents, plus $14 per mile for residents and $17 per mile for nonresidents.
“In the event a patient is treated, but refuses to be transported, we will charge $50 for residents and $100 for nonresidents,” Flores said.
“All the rates are set by Medicare and Medicaid standards, not by the Lake Hills Fire Department,” he said.
