ST. JOHN | After several months of dedicated practice, M.A.T.H. Bowl Team members from St. John the Evangelist School successfully competed in the 2013 Purdue University Elementary M.A.T.H. Bowl held at Kahler Middle School in Dyer.
Eighteen schools competed at Kahler, with SJE competing in a division including five area schools. Each team consisted of 3–4 students per round, and each round consisted of seven mathematical questions.
At the end of four rounds of academic competition, St. John the Evangelist achieved a score of 21 points, making SJE first in their division at Kahler and sixth in the state.
Schools competing against SJE at Kahler included Elliot Elementary, Hosford Park Elementary, Longfellow Elementary and East Chicago Urban Enterprise Academy.
Team members include: Adam Anderson, Sydney Maravilla, Tim Caballero, Nick Miketinac, Erik Curtis, Caroline Puch, Ben Goncher, Grace Rado, Juliana Jorgensen, Johon Ringo, Dillon Koontz, Marti Sprenne, Megan Mace and Rudi Sprenne, and coaches are Brenda Fanno, Nancy Evans and Nancy O’Neill.
