ST. JOHN | McDonald’s is one step closer to being among St. John's dining options.
The Plan Commission on Wednesday reviewed drawings and specifications for the proposed McDonald’s restaurant at 97th Lane and U.S. 41.
It was the first time McDonald’s project management staff could meet with the board since September. McDonald’s Corp. of Oak Brook plans to build the town’s first golden arches once all the drawings are finished and approvals and permits are granted.
The site is currently the location of Eenigenburg Quality Water in the Eenigenburg second addition. That building will be torn down to make way for the McDonald’s.
Owner John Eenigenburg will build a new Quality Water facility one lot north of the restaurant.
Gary Torrenga, of Munster-based Torrenga Engineering, discussed stormwater, sanitary sewer and water lines for the Eenigenburg lot.
Al Daniels, area construction manager for McDonald’s, answered commissioners’ questions about parking, deliveries, lighting and exterior materials to be used for the restaurant.
“It’s a nice looking building,” Plan Commission member Michael Forbes said after Daniels showed the rendering of the new McDonald’s. “The landscaping plan looks nice, too.”
Architect Nick Georgiou went through plans for the new Eenigenburg Quality Water building.
A number of variances will be needed to make the two buildings meet St. John ordinances.
“I, for one, have enjoyed the trip,” Torrenga told the commissioners. “John (Eenigenburg) wants to stay in St. John.”
The team will meet again with the Plan Commission at 7 p.m. Feb. 6.
