ST. JOHN | St. John the Evangelist Church is offering a program for individuals who are struggling with the issue of divorce.
“Divorce is not an event that takes place in a courtroom, it is a process. It is a process that begins long before the divorce decree is finalized," Deacon Ed Bodley said. "The same holds true for people in need of healing; that too is a process. Often times, people who are faced with a painful divorce are unequipped to deal with the many hardships that this presents.”
Scheduled at 7 p.m. for 10 consecutive weeks, the next series begins Monday. The successfully proven program “Divorce and Beyond” is a 10-step program that deals with the new realities brought on by divorce.
Sessions take place in a confidential, support group setting that includes others who are struggling with the same issues as well as some who have already dealt with divorce and can share their own experience.
“People in this situation need a place where they can vent their anger, pain and frustrations,” Bodley said.
The initial part of the program is designed for just that. It then transitions to offering experienced advice on how to best cope with one’s new realities. Then, issues of healing, growth and moving forward with one’s life are addressed.
