ST. JOHN | “I like scary movies. Last year I got really freaked out, and I wanted to be part of it,” said Katie LeBell.

For newbie LeBell, 17, of Dyer, being a character in the 11th annual Lake Hills Haunted House will really make the Halloween season this year. The senior at Lake Central High School, is one of more than 100 “scare actors” who signed up to be characters for the popular attraction at 8640 Lake Hills Drive.

Ronnie Holmes returns for the third year as a volunteer to take his place in the morgue as a medical examiner. The 19-year old South Holland resident and freelance videographer said he’s hooked on horror.

“We have three bodies in the morgue that won’t stay dead,” Holmes said.

Rated the eighth scariest haunted house within a 160-mile radius of Chicago by Haunted Houses Chicago, the scarefest debuts tonight from 7 to 10 and continues from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday and 7 to 10 p.m. on Sunday. The cost is $15 per person at the door.

Every Friday through Sunday this month, the Haunted House will be open for frights during those same hours. There will also be a special haunting from 7 to 10 p.m. on Halloween. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

“Parking is available at the haunted house. Please do not park in the subdivision,” said Mike Forbes, St. John Town Council president and head scaremaster at the Lake Hills Haunted House, which is the creation of Ken and Terri Forystek, of Hegewisch.
