ST. JOHN | After several months of grueling practice, meeting twice a week, the M.A.T.H. members (bowlers) successfully competed in the 2013 Purdue University Math Team Competition. The competition was held at Kahler Middle School in Dyer on Thursday, February 28th. Eighteen schools were present, with SJE competing in a division of five area schools. Each team consisted of 3 – 4 students per round, rounds consisting of seven mathematical questions. At the end of four rounds of academic competition, St. John the Evangelist achieved a score of 21 points, making SJE first in their class division and sixth in the State of Indiana.
Schools competing against SJE included Elliot Elementary, Hosford Park Elementary, Longfellow Elementary and E.C. Urban Enterprise Academy.
We congratulate the M.A.T.H. team members on an outstanding victory, which included Adam Anderson, Sydney Maravilla, Tim Caballero, Nick Miketinac, Erik Curtis, Caroline Puch, Ben Goncher, Grace Rado, Juliana Jorgensen, Johon Ringo, Dillon Koontz, Marti Sprenne, Megan Mace, Rudi Sprenne and coaches Mrs. Brenda Fanno, Mrs. Nancy Evans and Mrs. Nancy O’Neill
