ST. JOHN | A fresh set of footprints in the snow led police Sunday to a St. John man accused of breaking into 11 vehicles in the 10300 block of Olcott Avenue.
Allen J. O'Rourke, 19, is charged with three counts of burglary and six counts of theft. He remained in the Lake County Jail on Monday afternoon.
A neighbor told St. John officers that O'Rourke was breaking into his vehicle at about 5:20 a.m., according to a release from the department.
Officers followed the footprints in the snow and found O'Rourke in the backyard of a nearby house carrying a backpack with stolen items such as cellphone chargers, coins, wallets, electronics and clothes, police said.
According to the release, O'Rourke broke into at least three vehicles by going inside unlocked garages. St. John Detective Steve Flores said all 11 vehicles O'Rourke broke into were unlocked.
