ST. JOHN | Police continued searching Tuesday afternoon for four or five men who investigators believe entered a home in the 12300 block of Second Avenue and tussled with a resident before fleeing.
Nothing was stolen and no one was injured in the home invasion, St. John Police Chief Fred Frego said.
Police received a complaint at 11:38 a.m. from the homeowner, who said he discovered the suspects inside his residence.
The homeowner confronted the suspects and struggled with them before the suspects fled the home, heading west, Frego said.
Officers from St. John, Crown Point and Dyer searched the neighborhood with squad cars and a police dog unit but were unable to locate any suspects. The Lake County sheriff's helicopter also participated in the search.
Frego said a witness in the neighborhood reported seeing five males wearing backpacks leave the neighborhood in maroon van, entering the vehicle about a block from the crime scene at the intersection of 101st Avenue and Delmar Street.
The investigation was ongoing Tuesday afternoon, Frego said.
