ST. JOHN | A 15-year-old St. John boy died early Tuesday from injuries he suffered in an accident Monday night.

Jonathan Guzman, a pedestrian, was hit by a car at 5:36 p.m. Monday at 85th and Parrish avenues.

He was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Dyer with critical injuries and was later flown to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, where he died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Alcohol and controlled substances do not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

There were no citations issued at the scene. The accident remains under investigation, police said.

A moment of silence in honor of Guzman was observed before the start of Tuesday’s Munster vs. Lake Central varsity girls basketball game.
