ST. JOHN | Police said Saturday they have arrested three teenagers suspected of thousands of dollars in vandalism to residents' cars and mailboxes.

"Its unbelievable how much damage was done, but our guys did a great job," St. John police Sgt. Michael Fryzel said.

He said about 30 mailboxes were destroyed and six cars were damaged with mailboxes and cinder blocks thrown through windshields.

Fryzel said the vandalism began a week ago, prompting the department to assign additional officers to do intensified patrols throughout the town Friday night and Saturday morning.

He said an eagle-eyed officer spotted a car driving in a suspicious manner near a home with a damaged mailbox.

Officers pursued the car and eventually arrested three teenage males who were in custody pending charges.

Fryzel said officers are pursuing leads that more teens were involved in the crime spree and are following up on reports of damage from residents.

One woman in the Schillton Hills subdivision on the town's west side reported six mailboxes were destroyed on her street.
