ST. JOHN | The Town Council approved professional service agreements for engineering, legal and financial services Thursday at its meeting.
A list of residents and public officials also was approved for eight boards and commissions.
Hass & Associates will continue to provide engineering services for St. John. David M. Austgen of Austgen Kuiper Associates again will serve as town attorney and Police Commission attorney. The council also renewed the financial services' contract with Cender and Co.
Mike Forbes was re-elected president of the St. John Town Council, with Mark Barenie chosen as vice president.
Plan Commission members include Forbes and Gregory Volk from the council and residents Steve Kozel, Steve Hastings and Tom Redar.
Hastings also was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Park Board members include Frank Bradke and Judeanne Natzke.
John DeVries from the Lake Central School Corp. board was chosen for the Ethics Committee.
The Police Commission members include Ron Vale, Rose Heijl and Don Ferris.
DeVries and Pat Kocot of the Hanover Central Corp. School Board join the Redevelopment Commission along with Town Council members Barenie, Forbes, Volk, Kenneth Gembala and Larry Bustamante.
The council appointed George Bellamy to the Economic Development Commission. Redar, Kozel and Richard Hoover were approved for the Contractors Board.
In other business, the council approved payment for the new snowplow on the 45th anniversary of the 1967 blizzard. The snowplow, built by Chicago International Trucks, cost $144,607.
The council also approved a $2,000 annual donation to the Tri-Town Safety Village in Schererville.
"This is money well spent," Gembala said. "The thousands of kids who have gone through there have learned a lot."
