ST. JOHN | The second Walk/Run for Kailey will step off at 1 p.m. May 4 at Clark Middle School, 8915 W. 93rd Ave.
Registration begins at noon.
There will also be raffles, children's activities and food. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place male and female finishers in categories 18 and younger and 19 and older.
All proceeds from the walk and run, held in support of 10-year-old Schererville resident Kailey Florkiewicz, will go to the National Neimann-Pick Disease Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that supports and promotes research to find a cure or treatments for all types of Niemann-Pick Disease. It also provides support services to the children affected by the disease and their families.
Kailey was diagnosed in February 2013 with Neimann-Pick Type C, a degenerative disease that affects the patient neurologically. There currently is no cure.
More than 600 people participated in the first Walk/Run for Kailey last year, and this year's goal is to match or exceed what was raised in 2013. Any contribution is appreciated.
