Art league meets

HAMMOND | The LACARE Art League meets from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Purdue University Fitness Center, 2300 173rd St.

The meeting will include a presentation by photographer Dan Barnard regarding his photographic style and technique. Visitors are welcome for the demonstration, refreshments and a raffle.

Safe driving class scheduled

CROWN POINT | Crown Point's AARP chapter is sponsoring a drivers safety class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Crown Point Community Library, 122 N. Main St.

The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers..

 

Wicker Park camp-out slated

HIGHLAND | Wicker Memorial Park, 2215 Ridge Road, is sponsoring an overnight camp-out at the facility from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday.

Bring your tent and sleeping bag for a night of outdoor activities and overnight camping. Activities include a scavenger hunt, crafts, beanbag games, campfire, songs and an outdoor movie in the park. Grills will be available the evening of the event for outdoor cooking.

Registration is available prior to the event online, or day-of registration will be at the Wicker Park Pavilion from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. The cost is $5 per tent.

Three-day sale aids shelter

CROWN POINT | Rebuilding The Breach Ministries Inc./Bakery House has scheduled its annual benefit sale for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

This sale at Trinity Lutheran School gymnasium, 250 S. Indiana Ave., will benefit the shelter at 4913 Broadway, Gary, which provides Bible study, clothes, food and shelter for homeless men as well as food, clothing, a meal and Bible study open to the public 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays. Bakery goods will be available, and sales are by cash only — no checks.

Hammond church hosts dinner

HAMMOND | Hammond Christian Reformed Church is sponsoring a free community dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church, 1910 167th St.

Join church members for a free meal of tacos, refried beans, Spanish rice, chips, dessert and a beverage.

FRIDAY

Town hosts Corn Roast

SCHERERVILLE | Schererville is hosting its annual Corn Roast from 4-11 p.m. Friday at Redar Park at the intersection of Austin Avenue and Gregory Street.

Bring your family and friends to Lake County's longest-running corn roast. The park will be filled with entertainment, vendors, food and contests, including Culver's Custard Eating Contest.

Catalyst Productions will DJ during the event, and Schererville's American Legion Post 485 will host the beer garden. At 7 p.m., Schererville's RAK Brothers will entertain until closing at 11. Tickets include access to all-you-can-eat grilled corn, a hot dog or Polish sausage, a can of pop and Teibel's sauerkraut.

The cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-11. Kids 4 and younger are free.

Troupe presents 'Les Misérables'

MERRILLVILLE | Ross Summer Music is presenting a full version of "Les Misérables" as its summer production from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reinhart Auditorium, 276 E. 68th Place.

NWISO performs in park

GRIFFITH | The annual South Shore Summer Music Festival is scheduled to run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at Central Park, 600 N. Broad St.

The event will feature free concerts by the Northwest Indiana Symphony. Everyone is welcome to come early, bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the music. In case of rain, the event will be at Griffith High School, 600 N. Wiggs St.
