Vehicle of slain Hammond couple found on Dan Ryan
The missing vehicle of a Hammond couple found slain in a Calumet City Forest Preserve was discovered abandoned on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Wednesday, police said.
Sgt. Joe Donley of the Illinois State Police said a passing motorist spotted the 1997 Cadillac El Dorado at 1:50 a.m. in the northbound express lanes near 53rd Street and called police.
Illinois State Police checked the registration on the vehicle and discovered Hammond police had a hold on it regarding the homicides.
The vehicle was taken into custody by Hammond police early Wednesday morning, Donley said.
Further information was not immediately available from Hammond police.
Milton McClendon, 78, and his wife, Ruby McClendon, were found dead in the Wentworth Woods Forest Preserve at Campbell Avenue and Pulaski Road in Calumet City Monday afternoon.
The couple, of the 1000 block of Field Street, are the parents of Garrard McClendon, who serves as host of "Garrard McClendon Live!" on CLTV and writes an occasional column for The Times.
