CROWN POINT | One of the longest-serving members on the Lake County police force is leaving.

Cmdr. Henry "Hank" Woronka said he is retiring after 35 years as a police officer and investigator.

Sheriff John Buncich said Monday Woronka's departure comes in the wake of an interdepartmental complaint, on which he didn't elaborate.

"There was an issue, a personnel matter. We dealt with it and he chose to take his retirement, which takes effect at the end of the year," the sheriff said.

Woronka declined to comment on the personnel matter.

Buncich added, "He has had a great career with the sheriff's department. I hate to lose him."

Woronka is a member of the Aquatics Underwater Recovery and Rescue team of underwater divers, who have been recovering evidence and missing persons on behalf of more than 60 police and fire departments over the last four decades. He also is a co-owner of the Hobart-based Lake County Divers Supply Inc.
