WHITING | Summer recreation in the Whiting-Robertsdale area will now feature bike rentals.
The rentals, spearheaded by the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce, will be available at the chamber's office, 1417 119th St., at the Wolf Lake security office near the PAV and the Hammond Marina.
Cost is $5 for four-hour bike rental and $10 for all-day bike rental, said Tom Dabertin, president of the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce. Bike rentals will start Memorial Day weekend.
Dabertin said the chamber created the rental program because of the growing network of off-road bicycle paths in the Whiting-Robertsdale area.
Participants will need a driver's license or another form of state identification to rent a bicycle and will be required to fill out an application.
The bikes were donated by the Walmart in North Hammond, private citizens and the Hammond and Whiting police departments, Dabertin said.
