CROWN POINT | Prosecutors charged a Whiting man with attempted murder and other counts in Wednesday's shooting that left one of two passengers in his truck in critical condition.
Michael Gloria, 23, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and battery by means of a deadly weapon.
One of the two passengers told police he and Gloria had been drinking heavily when about 5:25 a.m. Gloria drove his truck to his Whiting home where he got his .38-caliber handgun.
Gloria continued to drive his truck around with the two passengers before pulling over to the side of the street in the 1400 block of Warwick in Hammond, court records state.
Gloria is reported to have started waving the gun around the inside of the truck. The gun discharged when one of the men grabbed Gloria's arm, court records state. Gloria allegedly reached up, aimed the gun at the man's head and fired, missing the man but shooting out a side window.
The man got out of the car, leaving Gloria in the driver's seat and the other passenger in the back seat.
Two more shots were fired, striking the remaining passenger in the side.
When Gloria was apprehended nearby, he could be heard on a 911 call line telling his girlfriend he had just shot two people.
