CROWN POINT | A 24-year-old Whiting man was handed a 45-year prison sentence Tuesday in the shooting of a rival during a party.
Matthew Noojin was charged with murder in the May 2012 shooting. He pleaded guilty in July to a charge of voluntary manslaughter.
Noojin admitted to shooting Eric Picazzo, 22, also of Whiting, after the two argued at a party regarding a girlfriend.
Police said Noojin chased Picazzo to the 1500 block of Fred Street, where the shooting occurred.
Picazzo was shot eight times, police said. A handgun used in the shooting was found at Noojin's home, police said.
