WHITING | Whiting Middle School will be recognized as a “Top Gainer” at the upcoming Indiana Conference on Learning on January 29th in Indianapolis. The WMS staff continues to make strides in student achievement as evidenced by its accountability grade of B this year from the Indiana A-F model.
The top gainer award is presented to schools that have reached a targeted gain in the percentage of students passing ISTEP over a three year period. WMS received bonus points in the area of language arts on its spring 2012 ISTEP scores due to a significant number of students demonstrating high growth.
Student data is tracked and analyzed throughout the school year so each student’s strengths and weaknesses are identified. The classroom teachers work to bridge the gaps that some students demonstrate through individualized instruction, additional staff support during class for students who need it, and technology integration. This will be the second Top Gainer award for Whiting Middle School since 2009.
Cynthia Scroggins, WMS Principal, is very proud of the commitment and dedication shown by her staff on a daily basis. This award is evidence that the WMS staff is dedicated to creating a school environment that knows no limit to the academic potential of every student.
