WHITING | Whiting Postmaster Cathy Powell is reminding residents to maintain clear steps, porches, walkways and street approaches to help mail carriers maintain consistent, timely delivery service.
She asks customers receiving curbside delivery to remove snow piles left by plows to keep access to mailboxes clear for carriers.
Delivery service may be delayed or curtailed whenever streets or walkways present hazardous conditions for letter carriers or when snow is plowed against mailboxes.
Powell said the Postal Service curtails delivery only after careful consideration and only as a last resort. Carriers attempt to deliver any curtailed mail the next delivery day.
