WINFIELD TWP. | Investigators from the Lake County Mutual Aid Box Alarm System on Thursday combed through the home at 12707 Gibson St. damaged by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The report on the investigation from the task force made up of 16 fire departments will be released soon, said Graham Federico, fire chief for the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Force.

However, unless there is another obvious cause, lightning can’t be ruled out because of the thunderstorm hitting the area at that time, Federico said on Thursday.

“The cause may be undetermined,” he said.

The fire started about 5 p.m. on the second floor. The blaze damaged about 50 percent of the house.

Other fire departments assisted the LOFS force in fighting the blaze, which was under control within two hours.

Two teenagers were home during the time of the fire and weren’t injured. The family of five living in the home planned to stay with family members.
