WINFIELD TOWNSHIP | The Lakes of the Four Season Clubhouse will be closed for an undetermined amount of time after a man drove a van in reverse into the building on Sunday, authorities said.

Graham Federico, fire chief of the Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Force, said the facility sustained structural damage in the kitchen area.

Rick Cleveland, LOFS community manager, could not be reached for comment Monday.

The man, a Lakes of the Four Seasons resident, was moving a couple’s van from the parking lot to pick them up at the clubhouse’s awning-covered entrance, Federico said.

“He had the van in reverse and stepped on the gas," he said Monday. "The van went through the exterior of the wall of the kitchen area.”

That portion of the building is about 15 to 20 feet away from the parking lot, he said.

The impact tore away the supports for the wall and affected a spot where a large hood system is located. The joists in the ceiling are compromised, Federico said.

“That hood system weighs 1 ton. That’s a lot of weight on the ceiling,” he said.

The Crown Point Fire Rescue Department’s technical rescue team helped pull the vehicle out of the building and the hood system was shored up, Federico said.

No one was injured in the crash and the older model van sustained only minor dents and scraps although its windows were shattered, he said.

Neither the name the man driving the van or that of the vehicle’s owners was available Monday.
