Resale shop blessed with buyers
WINFIELD | An organizer of Winfield's resale shop is pleased with the support received in the store's first month.
The store, which sells high-quality used clothing, attracted many customers about a week ago when it was selling items at half price, said Fay Iorio, a volunteer at the store.
"We were just flooded," Iorio said.
The shop at 10649 Randolph St. is operated by Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, Lakes of the Four Seasons United Methodist Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Iorio said the shop is constantly receiving donations. New items are available each week.
She said there have been many return customers who are "looking for that treasure." Vouchers for clothing also are available to those in need.
The store isn't able to use all the donations it receives, so any items it doesn't sell are given to Sojourner Truth House in Gary and St. Jude House in Crown Point.
Iorio said the store doesn't set out to make a profit, but funds are divided equally between the churches when profits are generated.
The churches received help from Winfield Township Trustee Rollie Brauer to keep operational costs low. The building the resale shop occupies is owned by the township. Brauer is renting the facility to the churches for $1 per year, Iorio said.
The resale shop is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
